Bausch & Lomb - History

April 26, 2008

The following is a brief history of the Bausch and Lomb company. From humble beginnings to one of the worldwide leaders in the contact lens market, Bausch and Lomb are now market leaders in many areas of lens production, and their contact lens heritage makes them a natural choice for many contact lens wearers. They claim:

We offer the world’s most comprehensive portfolio of eye health products and we’re proud that ours is one of the oldest, best known and most respected healthcare brands in the world

and while this is obviously a strong assertion, it is easy to see how they have become this confident. With over 14000 employees in 100 countries worldwide, Bausch and Lomb represent a real world power in the lens manufacturing industry.Bausch and Lomb is an old company with a weath of tradition for quality products and great service. Founded in 1853 by Germans John Jacob Bausch and Henry Lomb, the company initially manufactured precision vision products such as vulcanised rubber eyeglass frames. Production was in a small optical shop in Rochester, New York.

Bausch and Lomb produced the first optical quality glass in American during the mid 1890s, and in 1903 they began to manufacture products requiring extremely high levels of quality, with extremely stringent manufactuing tolerances. It’s products included microscopes, binoculars and camera shutters.

Bausch and Lomb’s reputation for quality meant that World War I found the company producing sunglasses for the American military - this tradition for assisting public bodies was continued, and the company allegedly also produced camera lenses for the equipment that captured the first satellite images of the Moon.

Bausch and Lomb’s manufacture of contact lenses and eyecare products was a natural progression from the other types and formats of lenses already produced. Its product range starts with one day lenses, to semi-permanent contacts. From their website:

Our offerings span the entire spectrum of wearing modalities and include such well-known brand names as PureVision®, SofLens®, Boston® and Optima®.

and:

Our lens care products include the ReNu® brand of chemical disinfectants as well as the Sensitive Eyes® and the Boston® lines of products for cleaning contact lenses.

Other products such as the world-famous Ray-Ban line (now sold) of sunglasses helped to propel Bausch and Lomb into the limelight, while scandals such as those surrounding the ReNu product line, and the alleged trademark infringements of the PureVision brand tarnished its reputation somewhat. Nevertheless the company and its brands still enjoy continued world-wide success.

One of the best places to buy Bausch & Lomb Contact lenses is at 1-800-contacts. Low prices and excellent customer service.

Review 1-800-Get Lens

February 8, 2008

Many people who order contact lenses online know only one or two online retailers. One of the lesser known online retailer of contact lenses can be found at 1800getlens.com. Upon entering the website it is easy to find what one is looking for. An easy way to find great contact lenses is just to look at the list of “Most Popular” contact lenses. The updated chart shows that Acuvue Contact Lenses are really popular at the moment. Visitors can also choose to browse by Brand or by lens type.

Once a contact lens of interest is identified a combined summary and order page provides all the information one might be looking for. Rebate information is highly visible instantly as well as different price/order options. For visitors just browsing the product pages provide detailed information about the contact lenses being displayed. To top it off the product pages also show customer reviews. Reviews are always to be treated with caution and I highly recommend to read them carefully and identify what the person is really saying. Often online reviews are fake, but the mix of good and honest reviews here rather makes the impression that 1800getlens.com shows real customer reviews – something I personally really appreciate.

Currently quite a few promotional offers seem to be available when ordering at 1800getlens.com. I found the following offers to choose from:

$30.00 Cash Back on ACUVUE® OASYS Rebate

Save 70% or more on Monthly Disposable contacts

More options and contact lens rebates can be found on their website. 1800getlens.com makes it easy to identify specials and contact lens rebates.

Conclusion: In my opinion 1800getlens.com is a great option and super alternative to the more established or better known retailers like lens.com or 1800contacts.com. An easy to navigate website provides fast access to all necessary information about a contact lens. No hassle ordering should make your life much easier.

1800Contacts Review

The following review for 1800contacts was submitted to us. If you would like to submit your own review, please email it to “reviews [@] contactlensrebate [dot] com” and we’ll be happy to add it to our website.

Review submitted by John B. / KS.
I have already ordered contacts several times from 1-800 Contacts and I’ve never had any significant issues. The low prices for contacts are sweet, and their web site is very easy to use (at least for me). Over time I had two situations where I needed customer service, and each time they exceeded my expectations. The first time, I made a mistake entering the eye doctors prescription (substituted a - for a +). I immediately called them apologetically after receiving the (of course) wrong order, but they instantly sent replacements which arrived in two days and included a free shipping label to return the original ones! This actually required no begging or convincing on my part.

The second time was with no doubt even more remarkable and impressive because I just got LASIK eye surgery and thus no longer need contacts (thank god). After I had surgery I still had two unused boxes of contacts and I did want to see if I could get some money back. Keep in mind that 1800contacts.com didn’t need to try to make me happy any more since I would no longer be a customer. Nonetheless, they promised to send a free shipping label and to give me a credit me for the unused boxes of contacts. The only issue in the past I had was when my former optometrist’s office was not very co-operative with them in confirming my existing prescription. I hate that as it was clear that they were trying to get my “business” by buying directly at the doctor’s office. I called them up and also told them that a) they were required by law to hand out the prescription and b) that I would pass on the word about my experience with them. I got it straightened out then fairly easy and found a better eye doctor through that experience as well.
